Why 'Azzizzi' and what does it mean?
Azzizzi, an Arabic name means precious, rare treasure, highly esteemed, and is also a term of endearment, similar in meaning to habibi, darling.
When I was a teenager I found a music manuscript with the initials E.A.W. on the front cover. It was clearly dedicated to my nana, Emily, but no one knew what the 'A' stood for, even she denied knowing what it was. When she died in 1992, her birth certificate revealed her hidden middle name was Azzizzi. Nana was Lebanese, and when the family came to New Zealand, as refugees in the early 1900's, they did everything they could to blend in, including anglicizing their surname. So, when I came to name by vintage business, Azzizzi was perfect, it honours my Nana, and it's meaning works beautifully with the lovely vintage treasures I find to sell.
I live with my precious family on the wild West Coast of the Te Waipounamu, Aotearoa, surrounded by my beloved nature: native rainforest, prolific birdlife, pounding oceans, and small country towns all on the backdrop of the majestic Southern Alps.
Azzizzi is an expression of my creative soul, and I am inspired by all things vintage and the beauty of the natural world. I collect treasures from by-gone eras and present them for you to add to your collections. On offer are vintage clothes and accessories, china and pottery, handcrafted linen, collectables and curios.
I create jewellery from my own photography of vintage china, or use precious fragments of embroidery from vintage linen to make Flora Brooches and gift cards. There are also knitted hats for adults and children. I guarantee every item I create is unique!
Vintage and retro clothes are washed and repaired, giving them a new lease on life, before they join you on the next stage of their journey.
